Sunset Partial Eclipse, Greenfield, IN - USA 10-11 June 2002

This was a thin annular eclipse of narrow path that crossed one of the Northern Mariana Islands and a piece of the Mexican Pacific coast at sunset. Most of the USA could have seen a partial solar eclipse. In Indiana, the sun set before maximum eclipse. I wanted to photograph the eclipse at sunset, but had to travel to get away from thunderheads. A location east of Indianapolis worked as the high clouds and anvil tops of thunderstorms in Illinois attenuated the sunlight. Slow Fuji Velvia and the smallest possible lens aperture and the shortest shutter openings made these images possible.
