From 2001, people have been trying to render the real visual appearance of solar corona by using software to combine sequences of digital images of different exposures. They have also scanned film sequences to achieve the same goal. In 2006, I brought along a Fuji S-2 Pro to this eclipse. This digital camera features a CCD chip that covers a wider dynamic range than others. I followed the program outlined by Miloslav Druckmuller on his website.
I found online a procedure for creating a composite solar coronal image using FITSWORK. This is the result.
